League Cup run hits the buffers

Motherwell crashed out of the League Cup last night when they were hammered 3-0 by St. Mirren in Paisley
Jim Gannon changed his formation to 3-4-3 after the 3-3 draw on Saturday at the same ground. It looked to be working in the opening minutes when Paul Gallagher did well to keep out a stining drive from Jim O'Brien.
Sadly that was the highlight of the first half for Well as St. Mirren went on to dominate the remainder of the half. The home side went ahead mid way through the first half when Andy Dorman's free kick was met by the head of Higdon to leave Ruddy helpless.
Well could've equalised at the start of the second half when Lukas Jutkiewicz latched on to a long ball from defence but once again Paul Gallagher kept the Saints ahead.
Saints made Well pay for this with two more goals, first from a deflected Ross effort and then an own goal from Stephen Craigan.
The manager described it after the game as a bad night at the office, and he wasn't wrong. He needs to make sure it is only one bad night and we bounce back to beat Hearts on Saturday.
