Three soft goals conceded to Dundee Utd saw Motherwell slip to there fourth defeat in row and make European qualification all the harder.

The first mistake came along as early as the fifth minute when Michael Fraser made a hash of a Stephen Craigan pass back and hit the ball of Jon Daly before seeing the ball bounce tamely into the empty net.

Motherwell fought bravely from this early set back and scored with 28 minutes gone. A Tom Hateley corner picked out John Sutton at the back post and his header left the United keeper helpless.

Another Fraser clanger allowed United a chance to take a lead before the break. His pass out to Mark Reynolds was a difficult one for the defender to deal with and ended up as a corner to United.

Conway took the kick and Daly added his second with an excellent volley, for a half time lead the visitors barely deserved.

Chris Humphrey was asked to fill in at full back after Stephen Craigan had gone off injured and his inexperience allowed Conway through on goal to fire low past Fraser.

Motherwell fought hard for a comeback and were denied a couple of decent penalty shouts from a referee who seemed to buckle under pressure in the second half. He also refused to send off Gomis after he committed a terrible tackle on O'Brien just after being booked already.

A goal with nine minutes left, another header from Sutton, set up a grandstand finish but Well couldn't overcome their own errors to take anything from the game.
