Consistency is the key.

Since Stuart McCall arrived at the club in January he has banged on about consistency of performance, and after 15 games in charge he is no closer to finding it.

We all know supporting Motherwell is a real roller coaster affair but these 15 games have been unreal with hopes boosted with one good performance only to be dashed by an awful one at the back of it.

The classic two games are the defeat to St. Mirren followed by the win over Celtic, and this is all hard to explain.

Many say this is what you expect from a young side, but this doesn’t cut it for me as the squad has a number of experienced players in it, including; Craigan, Hammell, Jennings, Lasley, Sutton, Randolph, Jeffers. This is the majority of the squad.

Is it down to the management team themselves, talking to people from Airdrie this seems to mirror Kenny Black’s time at New Boomfield. The info we hear from inside the club it that his training is varied, interesting and enjoyable. Is that enough, or is there something else missing.

I guess at the end of the day, to use a football cliché, the players need to have a look at themselves. They were motivated enough to perform at Hampden v Rangers, at Pittodrie against Craig Brown’s Aberdeen and against Celtic at Fir Park.

Maybe they need to put the same effort into the games against Kilmarnock, St. Johnstone and St. Mirren, if we don’t then we will see ourselves drop out of the Scottish Cup and Top Six contention in the coming weeks.

Consistency is the key.
