Skipper Stephen Craigan has extended his stay by one more year after signing a one year extension to his contract today.

The 34 year old began his career at Motherwell making his debut as far back as 1995, but he was released by Billy Davies five years later and moved to join Partick Thistle.

He helped them to two straight promotions while also picking up his first three International Caps for his native Northern Ireland.

Terry Butcher brought Craigan back to Motherwell in 2003 and since then he has been a consistent performer for Well no matter who the manager has been.

He has gone on to win a total of 54 Caps to date, becoming the first Motherwell player to reach 50 caps meaning he is the most capped Well player by a mile. He has also gone on to make over 300 appearances for Motherwell.

Last season he skippered the side to a top six finish, the Scottish Cup Final and also a League Cup semi final.

The defender himself is delighted to be staying at the club, and is hopeful he will finally be able to get his testimonial game fitted into the schedule in the opening weeks of the new season.
