Motherwell planning move from Fir Park

Chief Exec Leeann Dempster has been quoted today saying the club could set the ball rolling for a move from Fir Park in the next five years.

While not giving too much away at the moment this is the first real public declaration from a club official that we are indeed looking to move at some time in the future.

This will no doubt cause a stir amongst a section of the Well support who will not want to see us move from what they consider out spiritual home at Fir Park.

But if they look a bit closer at the old ground they will see its defficiences. The Main Stand is barely waterproof with water dripping through the roof in a number of places.

The offices and hospitality areas are okay but they are not really state of the art for the 21st Century, and could certainly doing with modernising.

The other three stands have almost outlived their usefulness, with the East Stand still tired from being what it is, a converted standing area. Sight lines are poor, and facilities dreadful.

If it is to be Ravenscraig let’s hope the ground built is one with a  “soul”, something many say is missing at Livingston, St. Mirren and St. Johnstone. It’s hard to put your finger on what that actually means, but it has to be close to the pitch and the right capacity (10000 minimum).

Let’s see what happens in the years to come, if anything!!!
