Motherwell ended their pre-season on Saturday with a fine performance in a 1-2 defeat to Leeds United.
While it will go into the book as a pre-season defeat there was no doubt Motherwell fans left the ground happy with the performance of their team. There were a number of encouraging performances throughout the side to provide hope for the new season.
After surviving a penalty scare, which saw Darren Randolph save his first spot kick as a Motherwell player when he denied former Well man Ross McCormack, Well took the lead.
A fine sweeping move involving Steve Jennings and Chris Humphrey which saw the winger put in a perfect cross for Jamie Murphy to score at the back post.
In the second half Randolph made a rare mistake allowing Alex Bruce to score from close range, and late on sub Ramon Nunez scored from close range.
For long spells Motherwell dominating the game with Jamie Murphy looking more like a Scotland International than McCormack or Robert Snodgrass in the Leeds side. If he keeps this type of performance up in the next six weeks there is no way we will hold on to him! Hopefully if he does go we can get top money for him.
Also impressing is new signing Nicky Law who combined well on the left with Hammell and Muprhy and looks as though he will be a good acquisition to the squad.
Also in the second half, youngster Jordan Halsman put in a steady performance and showed he is ready for the new season and could step up when called upon, either in midfield or at full back.
