On the opening day of the season for the reserves, they managed a 2-2 draw with Everton.

Just under 600 people turned out to see the reserves earn a point against Everton.

James Vaughan gave Everton the lead after 19 minutes from just a few yards out but a rare goal from Chris Shanks on 33 made it 1-1.

Newcastle captain, Kris Gate, fired the Magpies ahead on 73 minutes but Mark Hughes equalised from the spot 9 minutes from time for Everton.
