It has been reported in The Times newspaper and also on BBC Radio Newcastle, that the Magpies are interested in Middlesbrough’s Mark Viduka.

Roeder wants to add one more striker to the Newcastle ranks before the transfer window closes in less than 48 hours.

It is rumoured he is considering a move for Australian, Mark Viduka, who would possibly join up with Australia team-mate, Craig Moore, if he came to St. James’ Park.

There is no word from either club on this, but Roeder has stated he wants a striker with Premiership experience, and the former Leeds striker would fit the bill.

Although he is not young as Roeder would have liked, Newcastle are not in a position to be picky over age.

More on this as it develops.

Newcastle have also been linked with a 31-year-old Egyptian defender called Wael Gomaa.

Cairo-based side Al-Ahly claimed the defender was having trials with Newcastle, and also has interest from Charlton and Bolton.

Gomaa said:

"I trained with Newcastle's first team and put on a good show.”

No comment has been made from Newcastle.
