Upson: Sell Me

Birmingham City defender Matthew Upson, who before his injury was linked with Newcastle, Tottenham and Liverpool, has told his current club to sell him.

Birmingham were relegated to the Championship last season and, after suffering an injury, Upson ended up going down with them.

The talented centre-back, who is good enough to be playing in the Premiership, has told Birmingham that he will not sign a new deal and it would be in their interests to sell him sooner rather than later, although Steve Bruce wants a high offer to sell the England international.

The 27-year-old ruptured his Achilles tendon which prevented a possible move to Newcastle, Tottenham or Liverpool, who were all reported to be interested.

Upson said:

"I have refused a contract and nothing has happened since then. I think it may be in City's interest, if they want to get as much money as they can for me, to sell me the sooner the better.

"It will be worth more doing it that way because of the length of time I have left on my contract.

"I don't know whether they are thinking like that. I don't know if they want to keep me. I really haven't a clue. Could things happen in January? It is something I can't predict.

"All I can do is make sure I am in the best possible condition I can be in. I haven't got a clue. I made a calculated decision and I don't regret it at all."
