NUFC.com, a reliable unofficial Newcastle United site has reported that Newcastle United duo Michael Owen and Shola Ameobi have played in a friendly.

It has been reported that the injured duo have played in a friendly against Scottish side Grenta, behind closed doors.

This concurs with Roeders decision not to bring the duo back in a reserves game as there would be too much attention to the game.

Michael Owen broke his foot on 31st December 2005 against Tottenham and did not return until April 29th.

He then went to Germany for the World Cup with England and damaged his ACL in the first minute againt Sweden and has been out ever since.

Shol Ameobi has had persistant hip problems for the last 2 years and finally underwent an operation to fix these. He has been out all season and may also return this season.
