Former Newcastle United winger Laurent Robert has publically declared an interest in returning to English football after his contract with Levante was cancelled in November. Reports suggest that Robert approached Newcastle United eyeing a return but has been told it is not an option.
He said:
"In France it's been difficult. I've been in France for three weeks and it has chilled me to hear quite a lot of managers saying they are scared of my character. I think the best thing now for me is to go back to England and shine there."

The 32 year old picture above in a bizarre end to a game against Chelsea during his Newcastle career initially said he would be interested in returning to the North East in 2006 and blamed Souness for his departure:
"I really enjoyed my time in English football with Newcastle and would love to come back if Mr Shepherd would have me. When I think of Newcastle, there is only one word - fantastic.
Souness was the reason I left Newcastle. I do not know Glenn Roeder but have talked to some former team-mates and they tell me he is a good manager to work for."
Robert joined Newcastle from Paris St Germain under the management of Sir Bobby Robson, he was sold to Portsmouth in 2005.
Ipswich Town have openly invited him to trial with them and look set to land him.
