Newcastle's Damien Duff is the latest of several players to give an interview this weekend, regarding the clubs position in the Premier League. Earlier Tyne-Talk reported manager Kevin Keegan and defender Steven Taylor had spoken out about going back to basics, Duff now talks about how the word "relegation" has not been uttered in the dressing room before matches & says the team remains positive.
Whilst Newcastle United FC are not competing with the top 6 this season, but with a 6 point gap they arent exactly say on the bottom spot either. Most of the fans are confident that the club won't be fighting a relegation battle, however the press report otherwise, causing players to put fans minds to rest.
Duff remains confident but accepts that it is a worry;
"When I was at Blackburn it was said that they were too good to go down and I went down with them.
We are in a fight. We have got a tough run-in and need to start picking up points because we haven't done it of late.
Relegation hasn't been mentioned in team-talks because we are trying to stay positive.
But anyone who has got half a brain can see we need to pick up points, and the sooner the better.
We have got a lot of work to do. We are way off what Newcastle United expects."
Newcastle now take a break as other teams battle it out in the FA Cup, Duff said of the lack of Cup Competition;
"It's probably a good thing we haven't got a game as it gives us two weeks to work on the training ground. We have got a lot of work to do. We are way off what Newcastle United expects.''
