A club source for Newcastle United issued a statement yesterday declaring that Mike Ashley is going nowhere and intends to stay at the club where he has alienated himself from the fans after the appalling underhand tactics he and his board have used during the Kevin Keegan saga.
Since Keegan walked away from the club for a second time in his career just short of a week ago, there has been a series of official statements released by both the League Managers Association on behalf of Kevin Keegan and from Newcastle United FC; and a series of "club source" statements to support them.
In light of recent events it would perhaps have been wise to stay out of the limelight and take a more thoughtful approach to the situation. Yet for Mike Ashley who is known for his reserved approach to things and dislike of publicity there has been yet more talk from "sources" fuelling the issue.
"Mike is firmly committed to Newcastle United. Despite the backlash from Kevin's departure, he remains determined to get the club moving forward again.
He totally believes in the structure he put in place in January. The search for the new manager is already under way.
There's no doubt that the current board are just as disappointed as the fans that Kevin's stint in charge has ended. But whenever any manager leaves a club life must go on and that starts with Saturday's important game against Hull City."
Mike Ashley will NOT be at the Hull game at the weekend, after increasing his security team to include former SAS soldiers and Gurkhas. Chris Hughton will take charge as Caretaker Manager until Keegan's replacement has been found.
If it was so important to keep Keegan than why didnt the fat f00k show up and have talks with him. Instead he is off in NYC partying and drinking. He wont be sitting with the fans this game? What a shame, would have been nice to watch him get stoned on tv.
so obviously he is sh*ting himself enough not to come to the game and hire extra security so what is he gaining by keeping the club? a team he cant watch and a city he cant go to. what the f*ck is the point?
