Police Presence Increased For Planned Protests

Northumbria Police have responded to the voices of the Newcastle United fans and are set to deploy more officers this weekend ahead of the Hull game, as fans announced a protest march through the city to the stadium.

The police are aware of five separate events being planned to demonstrate to owner Mike Ashley and his Board the fans disgust and frustration at the way he is handling the clubs affairs, namely the departure of former manager Kevin Keegan.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said:

"The safety of the public remains top of our agenda at all football games throughout the season.

The forthcoming game on Saturday is no different, policing levels will always be adjusted according to any intelligence about possible disorder. We are aware that there is the potential for protest on Saturday and we will facilitate lawful and peaceful protest."
