Smith Out For 3 Months

Midfielder Alan Smith has been diagnosed with a stress fracture of the foot and could be out for another 3 months meaning is unlikely to play this side of Christmas. Smith who is yet play so far this season will undergo surgery to repair the fracture.
The situation was confirmed by caretaker manager Chris Hughton who said:
"Alan has a stress fracture of his foot and he needs surgery. It looks like he'll be missing for up to three months so that's a blow."
Smith, who is yet to make his mark at the club and is yet to score joins a long list of injured players, including Mark Viduka, Obafemi Martins and new signing Jonas Gutierez.
Hughton also has Joey Barton and Danny Guthrie serving suspensions.

He isn't great but the midfield keeps getting thinner, soon the lads and lasses of Tyne-Talk will need to suit up.
