Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Newcastle v Tottenham

Newcastle United host Tottenham Hotspur in tonight's 3rd round Carling Cup tie. Both teams will be looking for the win, with Spurs hoping to be one of the London Premier League teams making it through to the next round along with Arsenal after West Ham and Fulham both crashed out last night.

Juande Ramos' side are just one place lower than Newcastle in the league and currently sit bottom after securing just 2 points so far. 

United are not far behind, with just 4 points.

Caretaker manager for Newcastle Chris Hughton will have Obafemi Martins available this evening after the striker recovered from a groin injury which has seen him miss Newcastle's last 4 matches, whilst Spurs may rest striker Roman Pavlyuchenko.

Joey Barton and Danny Guthrie are both out due to suspension for Newcastle whilst Mark Viduka, Jose Enrique, Jonas Gutierrez, Alan Smith, Habib Beye, Kazenga LuaLua, W Ngo Baheng and Andy Carroll will all miss out due to injury.

Spurs will be without right back Alan Hutton though despite a recent injury Luka Modric hasn't been ruled out to play a part.

Michael Dawson, Ledley King and Fraizer Campbell could all make the side for Spurs.
