Beye & Shay Back Red Card Appeal

Referee Rob Styles has refused to rescind the red card he issued to Newcastle United defender Habib Beye in the 12th minute of yesterday's home match against Manchester City. As a result a hearing will take place on Thursday 23rd October after the club lodged an appeal with the Football Association.
The only person to agree with Rob Styles' action is colleague Graham Poll, whilst pundits and players alike are shocked at the awful decision. Beye was playing his first game for the club after recovering from injury and Robinho's drama skills alongside Style's interesting actions led to City scoring from a penalty to go ahead in the game. Beye told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle of his disappointment at being red carded: "For me that was the start of my season and I'm devastated by the decision. I wouldn't have made the tackle if I didn't think I could have got the ball, and that's why I am so disappointed. It was my first game back for some time, and to be sent off so early is very disappointing." Talking about Newcastle's forthcoming derby against Sunderland Beye said; "I know how big this game is to the supporters, not only for the fans who want us to win, but also for me personally. I would have been playing against one of my best friends in the game in Djibril Cisse. Fingers crossed, the decision will be overturned." Keeper Shay Given has claimed he had the best view of the incident, and said: "I felt that it wasn't a penalty and definitely wasn't a sending off. My only concern was should I pick the ball up or kick it away because I thought it was a back-pass because he's clearly got the ball. For him to give a penalty and a red card I was amazed to say the least and I felt it was a wrong decision. I felt at the time if the referee had maybe spent ten seconds or had quiet word with the linesman then he may have seen it differently. But he was adamant it was penalty and a red card so it couldn't have been a worse start for us after 12 minutes against a very good team in Man City. But we showed great character to come back and in the end could've won it. It was disappointing to concede the second because they have come right through the middle of us. We were disappointed we didn't hold out but at the same time I think we would have taken a draw after 12 minutes when we were 1-0 down and down to ten men."
i didnt think styles could afford to admit another mistake, but this article suggests otherwise
