Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Sunderland v Newcastle

Newcastle make the short trip to Sunderland's Stadium of Light tomorrow for a televised 12.45pm kick-off. Kinnear will mark his first Derby with a semi fit squad which sees Joey Barton return to the fold after a 6 match suspension, whilst Roy Keane's side will be confident after holding Arsenal and Fulham in their last 2 games.
Both sides come off the back of double draws, Newcastle conceding twice and scoring twice in both their last two matches, Sunderland scoring just the once against Arsenal, but failing to score away against Fulham. Kinnear is looking for his first win of the season, whilst United are looking for their second. Both teams are fairly even on the stats front with both teams having drawn 3 games a-piece.
Unfortunately Sunderland have the advantage in the table after securing an additional 3 points and conceding 6 goals less than their North-East rivals which puts them 12th to Newcastle's 19th.
Michael Owen is interim manager Joe Kinnear's biggest injury concern, but he welcomes back Jonas Gutierrez who is expected to play some part in tomorrow's match, from the bench, after recovering from a collarbone injury sustained on international duty. Nicky Butt will be assessed to see whether he is fit to play after sustaining a foot injury, whilst Viduka and Smith remain sidelined.
Joey Barton returns from suspension and Habib Beye is set to start after his red card given by Rob Styles at the weekend was rescinded after appeal on Thursday.
Roy Keane's side will be boosted by the return of Dwight Yorke (International games), Nyron Nosworthy (hamstring), Martyn Waghorn (knee), Liam Miller (groin) and Kenwyne Jones (knee), but Keane is unlikely to make many changes from the side that drew at Craven Cottage last weekend.

Jonas and Enrique looked good at the end, as did Barton.. Once, we get those players back to top fitness we'll move away from the bottom for sure.
It never feels good losing to those pieces of carp but.. at least our SJP isn't covered with loose garbage.. I would have thought the dirty mackems could have had a clean up at halftime.. Surely, all that time spent as highway garbage collectors could be put to good use..
Anyway, onward and upward.. I think since JK has taken over we've seen 3 spirited performances from the lads. I'm happy with that and the results will come, once our luck turns a little.
