Ashley Deeply Hurt, But Could Stay Put

Joe Kinnear has hinted that owner Mike Ashley is putting plans into place in the likelihood he cannot sell Newcastle United. Kinnear said in a recent interview to expect a statement of some kind from Ashley around the 22nd November 2008, the latest date available for a deal to be sealed and finances to be available for the January transfer window.

Kinnear who was originally brought in as interim manager for 8 games but has had that contract extended said:

"I still want to be successful and do the best I possibly can. I do the same with any job I go into. I'm aware that this is arguably the best job I've ever had and I'd love to keep it.

If it's not to be then there's no point in me saying that I didn't know it from day one. After the Chelsea game [on November 22] I'm going to have to wait and see, but the club might have been sold before the Chelsea match.

I've spoken to Dennis Wise who's director of football, I spoke to owner Mike Ashley and said, ‘is there a game-plan?' He said that he'd let us know exactly what the future is and exactly where we're coming from [after the Chelsea match].

I'd love to have finances available to strengthen the team if I'm still in charge. It very much just boils down to if I'm still here."

In a separate interview he said:

"From the times I've met him I think Mike Ashley is the sort of guy who would hold his hands up and try and call a truce with the fans. I know he's deeply hurt by what's happened.

I think you will hear from him after the Chelsea game on November 22. I think he will have to - it's been a long time with nothing being said.

I was originally brought in for eight games and in that time-span he thought the club would be sold. Now if it's not he's got to come up with other ideas.

And I'd probably say we need four players. We maybe need to shift some out - I would advise him to go that route anyway.

The most important thing is that we don't go down. I think we're strong enough to avoid relegation with a little tinkering.

Here's a guy that's put £240m in. He's cleared all the debts. This club is solvent where other clubs are forced to sell."

Ashley Deeply Hurt, But Could Stay Put

people are ready to forgive and forget joey bartons much more heinous mistakes, and i for one wouldnt care too much if ashley decided not to sell, provided he learns the lessons of his first 18 months in charge. i'm not talking about upsetting poor little kevin, i mean the turmoil created by forcing a flawed system into place without considering the personalities involved on all sides. these people couldnt work together, and the situation was allowed to become critical without early intervention. ashley would need to decide whether its easier to find a good manager to work with his choice of directors, or whether its easier to find good directors to work with his choice of manager.
i guess he would only stay if no suitable offers came in, so that would mean we were stuck with him, so any who werent prepared to accept the situation would be pis-sing in the wind anyway. further demonstrations could be quite damaging, if he has exhausted his escape strategies and still finds himself in charge, for at least the short term. i never agreed with the idea of a deadline, it was an artificial constraint needlessly put in his own way by a man trying to find the best deal.

i agee almost completely with those who think joe's recent statements are meant to prepare us for the news that ashley has failed to sell the club, but remember his hints after a day or two of getting the job, when he said keegan and shearer were 'parked around the corner', turned out he was just rambling, not telling us anything he learnt privatley...

even more from joe. i'm starting to wish he would button it like, he's re-opening a can of worms here. in his position it would be sensible to leave the keegan v ashley stuff well alone, there are still plenty who cant see wrong in anything keegan does and never will. joe could find himslef the next target of the bedsheet brigade if he backs ashley up, like he sounds like he is here

i really hope this doesnt turn into protests again and round the clock news coverage of another non-story, it does no good for anyone at the club

I think we need to know the truth if Ashley is staying. Who knows, we might even see him in a better light. He'll need the support of the fans if he stays.

I could forgive Ashley.

He really needs to get Owen to sign that contract though, and he needs to back us in January.

It would help if he got rid of that pesky Wise fella too.

Dennis Wise needs giving his P45.

He can always head back to London and join a pantomine.
Snow White and the 7 dwarfs (he can audition for the part of Dopey).

The director of football set up is a non-starter.
Look what happened to us.
Look what happened at Tottenham.
English football needs be run the English way.

heard of frank arnesen luke?

director of football at chelsea!

maybe being given 30m strikers you dont ask for is better than being given the players kk got though!

Aye, I've also heard of Jose Mourinho.
Maybe he would still be at Chelski if it hadnt been for the interfering paws of Arnesen/Kenyon

Look where the cockney fat greedy bast*rd has left us, bottom of the league. He'll get no sympathy or forgivness from me. How easy would it have been to tell the dwarf to get out and bring in a Steve Bruce or even bring KK back.
Levy done it at Spuds and look at them now.

It sickens me what these ba*tards have done to our club

look at them now, eh? bit early for that dub. spurs will probably be ok, but they are still in it with us for now.

as for chelsea, they are an example of how the continental system CAN work. jose won titles, and when it came time to replace him there was no wholesale squad overhaul, just a few minor adjustments. this is because the manager at chelsea is not soley in charge of recruitment. arnesen has provided continuity at chelsea across three managers, and the squad looks very strong just now. we arent in their league, but the same principles could have stopped us throwing away some of the big money we spent under shepperd, buying a new squad every time we changed manager.
i say the personnel were the problem, and i include keegan and wise in that

Look a them now? they've just beat the league leaders and drew with Arsenal away so yes look at them now, Liverpool and Arsenal would tear us to shreads at the moment.

Anyway my point was Levy done the right thing by Spuds, Ashley hasn't...FACT

What colour is the sky on your planet?

-Jol and Ramos got the boot when it should have only been Comolli. He's covering his own back, a classic Fat Fred tactic.

The Director of football can work, but only if the right people are in the right places. The full facts haven't come out on the Keegan departure, but i do know the players brought in have improved the squad.

Are you saying we should keep mr wise or any other director of football at our club? cos i dont do it the english way or pay the price and i dont think you can use chelski to add weight to the argument any one with half a brain and and the spending power chelski are bound to buy good players i mean come on every one knows they have spent their way to the top and only one man is responsible for that and he aint director of football

Chelsea could adopt any management system they want and still do well, they could draw their startin 11 out of a hat and probably still qualify for champions league

It's not about forgiving and forgetting, though I do feel he did the best manager this club ever had very dirty.

My problem with Ashley is that the way the Summer transfer window and then the Keegan saga went tells me he doesn't know how to run a football club.

Hey, Ashley, want to reconcile with the fans? Sack Wise. I can't see what he does to help this club in any case.

Exile-if the most successful manager this club ever had can be referred to as 'little Kevin,' I'm sure you'll have no problem to my continuing to refer to Ashley as a fat, arrogant, incompetent money-grabbing @#$%&, right?

And as for signing Owen: meh. He should have been sold in the summer of '07 after Martins showed he can do everything lil Mickey does, but for a fraction of the cost. Now we'll get nothing out of Owen when he walks.

tunyc, i'll admit to baiting this with 'little kevin', as i wanted to see what the current feelings are, wasnt serious, i remain a big fan. but please, dont refer to mr keegan as our most successful manager, it does him no favours, nor you!

that post was a knee-jerk mate, i was just a little surprised by what you said. no offence, but we have had managers who won stuff, even if it was a long time ago!

as for the rest, do you think the whole thing has been reduced too far, to become keegan=good, not-keegan=bad? there isnt even any debate at all, ashley is the bad man, full stop. well, we could be stuck with him, and - though i know this isnt what some people want to hear - we dont know all the facts relating to the last managers departure.

we've all been over what we know and think many times these last eight weeks, none of it changes the present situation. where do we go if there is no buyer? we have a rubbish owner, do we make a bad situation worse or hope it gets better?

Yes, the media have reduced the Keegan scenario to the point of absurdity and many supporters have taken that line.

Truth is, I'll never know personally who is a good or a bad man among those involved. What I do know, as I posted, is that ultimately Ashley is responsible for everything that goes on at this club. I accept that as of now, he owns NUFC. I doubt he knows how to run it well, as a football club. I simply want him to prove me wrong or shove off.

'I simply want him to prove me wrong or shove off.'

i'm taking that as common ground fella! i keep reading ashley is a *whatever*, and i'm prepared to believe it, but first i would need a bit more knowledge to push me over the line. in the absence of this, i'm hoping lessons have been learned, if no buyer is found this winter

media reports tonight quote seymour pierce as confirming two serious bidders and that a deal should be completed early next year for around the £250,000,000 mark. Both parties are oversees.

Bring it on and goodbye and good riddance Ashley the clown.

That is common ground, exile! I could care less if an asshole runs the club as long as he keeps to his job and fills the trophy case...
