FA CUP: Match Preview/Thread/Stats: NUFC v Hull C

By Tyne-Talk
January 13 2009

In the FA Cup 3rd round reply to be played tomorrow night, Newcastle host Hull City on the back of a 0-0 draw at the KC Stadium. Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear will be forced to field a weakened side after both Andy Carroll (hamstring) and Shola Ameobi (knee) joined the casualty list after picking up recent injuries, Carroll after scoring against West Ham on Saturday.

They join Mark Viduka (Achilles), Obafemi Martins (Hernia Op), Alan Smith (foot), Claudio Cacapa (knee), Joey Barton (knee), Habib Beye (ankle), and Gonzalez (Achilles) who are all out injured.

In addition to the above, Steven Taylor (calf), Jose Enrique (groin) and Geremi (back) are also out injured.

So with twelve players out, 11 senior players, 8 of whom are often in the starting 11, four of which are strikers, Kinnear could struggle to field a side let alone a bench and equally concerning, leaving Michael Owen as the only fit striker.

As a result he had named, Kazenga Lua Lua, Tamas Kadar, Mark Doninger and Jonny Godsmark in the side.

Nicky Butt will add some experience to the side after returning from suspension.

In light of the recent injuries and suspensions Kinnear remains adamant that none of his players will be leaving this January despite numerous links for the likes of Joey Barton, Shay Given, Steven Harper and Charles N'Zogbia to different clubs.

Hull City manager Phil Brown is likely to have Caleb Folan, Ryan France and Nathan Doyle back in contention but will be without Bryan Hughes, Andy Dawson (Achilles) and Anthony Gardner (thigh).

Kamil Zayatte will play his last game before seeing out his suspension next weekend.

Look at that bench!

Two guys who are rumored to be on the way out, four kids and Harper.

I said it before: I don't like this fixture.

Harper might not necessarily be around next season either.

Think the team will be that but with Geremi at RB instead of Kadar, or Edgar RB with Jonas LW, Geremi RW and Duff at LB.

Geremi is leaving so he has picked up an Injury.

I agree totally... the ungreatful Zog needs to be dumped. Dont sell him, just stop playing him.

hate losing, but a free weekend instead of a glamour tie with millwall could be just what the physio ordered...

it was a question, rather than a comment. and one that many fans will be asking themselves about this game, because of our dire situation.

remember boro getting to two cup finals in one season?

and what happened to them?

Yeah but you gotta believe...

A couple of wins and players back from injury and who knows.

Worked for Portsmouth.

Butt just hit the bar with a header. We have had the better of the opening stages, with St. James less than half full.

Is it just me or has Owen been missing a lot of one on ones of late? We need an early goal(or any goal), can't afford this to go into extra time or worse, to go out.

Can't watch but from what I've read our finishing has been crap.

Exile, if Tottenham can win a cup last season (when they sucked) then we can win this season.

All Owen had to do was finish one of his several chances to keep us in this competition.

My heart will not break if he's not back next season (though it will if we play that season in the championship).

This season has been an embarassment and I wish it would end tomorrow. It's going to be a while before I look forward to watching a game. I feel sorry for the 30,000 who paid good money to stand in the cold to watch this crap.
