Shearer Speaks Whilst Lovenkrands Is Stable In Hospital

Newcastle United’s 3rd temporary manager of the season, Alan Shearer has spoken out after his first game in charge ended in a 2-0 defeat at St James’ Park. The former Newcastle skipper chose to concentrate on the positives from the game and address the negatives during training rather than with the media. Shearer also failed to be drawn into blaming referee Rob Styles for the goal that wasn’t.

He told Sky Sports;

"There were plenty of positives, one or two negatives as well, but there were plenty of positives from the game. Effort-wise, no problem; we have got another six or seven days to work with them now.

The response from the players over the past two or three days has been great, but there is a lot of hard work to be done. We haven't got a lot of time, we know that. But I think we will get there.

A mistake in the second half has cost us. When you go 1-0 down to a team like Chelsea, you are reluctant to try and change it too much and open it up because of the quality they possess. You are always liable to the counter-attack and that is what happened."

Shearer confirmed that Peter Lovenkrands is stable after being taken to hospital following an elbow in the ribs from Chelsea’s Malouda.

He added;

"He (Lovenkrands) was struggling to breathe. He was taken to hospital as a precaution. They tell me he is stable.”

And jokingly he claimed to have seen the goal that wasn’t;

“I could quite clearly see from where I was standing that it was in. No, I couldn't really; I'm just getting into the manager's cliché. I think TV replays show it was in.

It might have given us a rousing last five or ten minutes. But it is all ifs and buts. We get on with it. It is not his fault we lost."

Lovenkrands situation has been confirmed by Shearer on the official website nufc.co.uk; he said;

“Peter got a very, very nasty knock on his back and he was struggling to breathe. We had to put breathing apparatus on him when he got into the dressing room.

He went to hospital and they’ve stabilised him and hopefully he will be okay.”

Worryingly the site state a serious back injury in their report of the story.

DarahL - Thats exactly what I thought when I saw it on MOTD last night. He looked like he panicked.

I just hope there is no "serious back injury" - because if so i'm not sure how that elbow caused it...bruising yeh but a serious complaint ?
