Alan Shearer has vowed the club will stay up. The former Toon player, now club manager believes that yesterday's performance showed the ability to fight for their Premier League spot. He also praised Andy Carroll for coming on and scoring.
Shearer told The News of The World;
"I think we will stay up and the players will do well. We showed we are willing to fight and scrap to stay in the league.
Andy came on and got his goal after two in the week for the reserves and that showed me he wants to have a part in our fight.
I was delighted for him. I told him to go out and make a name for himself and what a fantastic header it was."
He added;
"It was a vital point. When we got that goal, I thought we were going to go on and win it. The players showed in the second half they were up for the fight, up for the battle.
We needed a little bit more quality in the second half and we got it.
The big man Carroll's come on and showed to me that he wants to play a big part.
Can we stay up? Absolutely, yes! I know the players think that, especially after that second half performance."
Andy Carroll replaced 27 year old Shola Ameobi in the 71st minute of yesterday's battle at Stoke and immediately made an impact.
Today Ameobi has been linked with a move to Hull City at the end of the season. Despite signing a new 3 year contract in January reports suggest Newcastle United will be willing to let the striker go for just £2million.
