The troops are being rallied as Jose Enrique and Andy Carroll both spoke out ahead of this evening's home game against Leeds United. After a humiliating 6-1 defeat at Leyton Orient's Brisbane Road stadium at the weekend, Newcastle will be looking to bounce back with a win in what is their only pre-season friendly at St James' Park.
Enrique told The Gazette;
"We have to show our fans that this was just a one off. It was a bad game at Leyton Orient and we know we're much better than that.
These games are about getting fit, and it isn't unusual to see big teams lose in pre-season, but I know that the fans come to see us win. That's what we aim to do against Leeds.
We didn't play well, yet the game is gone, and we can no longer do anything to retrieve that game. All we can do is look ahead to Leeds and concentrate on getting a result.
It would be great to go into the West Brom game on the back of a couple of wins."
Meanwhile striker Andy Carroll has told the Gazette he is ready to take responsibility as a first team player, he said;
"I think I came up to the first-team dressing room halfway through (last) season. Obviously, it's good to be starting the season in the first-team dressing room - it's what I want. I just need to start playing regularly, and I'll be even happier.
I'm ready for the responsibility. I know where I stand now. I know I'm in the first-team dressing room, and I'm involved with everything.
I just need to do as well as I can, really, and push for a place."
Tickets on the turnstiles cost £10 for adults, £7.50 for concessions and £5 for under 18's.
KO 7.45pm.
