Martins Gets His Wish For £9M Fee

After making it clear that there is a hold on all incoming and outgoing transfers, it appears Mike Ashley is changing the rules and accepting bids for players - but with no sign of signing replacements. Reports tonight suggest that Newcastle United have agreed a £9million fee for striker Obafemi Martins with Bundesliga club Wolfsburg.
Martins who joined Newcastle in 2006 and has just recovered from a hernia operation was removed from tonight's squad to face Leeds United, fuelling speculation he is set to leave sooner rather than later.
Earlier in the week Martins said of the proposed move;
"The Bundesliga will soon be the best league in the world. Therefore Wolfsburg excites me. I hope the transfer happens."
The move is set to pave the way for other players such as Alan Smith to exit the club, indicating that perhaps Ashley is resigned to having to keep the club for a little longer. However, despite this there is no indication of any money being spent on prospective replacements.

martins will not have asked to leave (this is why so few footballers ever ask to leave), meaning the payment of contractual bonuses due over the next two years will have to be settled by the club immediately. estimated 2m.
inter milan will receive final instalment of transfer fee from nufc for his transfer of three years ago. another 2.5m.
nufc will receive first installment of transfer fee, payable over the four years of his contract, estimated 2.5m.
nufc will save estimated 3m in wages next season.

read this again, this is how it works, this is why there is no 9m (for anyone), this is why the next year is so dangerous regardless of whether we manage to sell the players we want rid of...cos the money we may hope to raise by selling would be spent GETTING THEM TO LEAVE!!! and it also wouldnt arrive in one go, it would come over maybe four seasons...when we need it now. borrow against this income? not at less than ten pc.
