Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Newcastle Utd v Swansea City

By Tyne-Talk
November 28 2009

Newcastle United host a strong Swansea City side today at St James' Park, with both teams in form. Chris Hughton has guided Newcastle to top of the table whilst Swansea are in 4th place. Newcastle have won their last 4 and lost 2 of their last 6 games, whilst Paulo Sousa's side have won 4, drawn 2 and not lost a game in their last 11, the division's longest unbeaten sequence.

Chris Hughton faces an anxious wait to see whether Andy Carroll (illness), Danny Simpson (thigh) and Ryan Taylor (calf) are fit to play, whilst Shola Ameobi is yet to resume full fitness despite a week of training.

Zurab Khizanishvili is available after serving a 3 match suspension.

Swansea are without Stephen Dobbie (ankle), and Mark Gower (hamstring), whilst captain Garry Monk is a doubt as he continues to struggle with a calf injury.

Emergency loan signing David Cotterill is expected to feature from the bench after moving from Sheffield United earlier in the week.

Fact: This is the first league meeting between these two sides in 26 years.

Fact: The next goal Newcastle United concede will be their 6000th in their league history.

Nevermind West Brom, 2nd Place at the end of the year is still auto promotion. I'm more concerned with Leicester who is 1-0 up right now. If they draw, we'll have an 8 point clearance over the playoffs.

Its true that our own results are what counts but any slip up by West Brom would always be welcome.
Just not gonna happen today.

What young guys are on the bench today? Kadar and Lua Lua? Hopefully they can get a good 20 minutes at the end.

Yeah, another great result. That's 5 wins on the trot. I suspect Watford will be a lot tougher next week though.

Leicester drew, giving us an 8-point (3-game) cushion over the playoffs.

I saw the three goals on Sky this morning before I went to work. It cheered me up for the day.

3 good headers and a great run and cross from Jonas. I wish he'd do that more often.

I wish they'd show our matches more often here OTL, we don't get to see many.

Never mind we'll see a lot more next year when we are back in the Premiership. (Sm128)

I update it after every game. The aim is to allow all toon supporters to view and download the goals throughout the season, as I know all of us cannot watch every match whilst we in the championship due to various reasons.

I'm a huge Micro-brew fan and when you hear about a 65 proof ale, it's hard not to want it. Screw Utopia's $150 retail price (of which all 30 bottles alloted to Texas are sold). 30 pounds for Penguin is worth it, even if the shipping is costing as much as the bottle.

Definitely worth it. Sounds like it should be really good, too-not just a high alcohol content. Will try to get a bottle.

She ordered it from their site. It's severely limited supply (500 bottles).

Be prepared to drop $50 on shipping though.
