More Encouraging Signs For Newcastle United

Ahead of the visit of Watford to St.James Parks this Saturday afternoon, there are a few more reasons for Newcastle United supporters to be optimistic about the chances of gaining automatic promotion.
Not only are the Magpies eight points clear of the team in third place on the log with another home game coming up, on the back of five consecutive wins, but it is the quotes released in the media that are showing even greater signs of encouragement.
The last thing the club needs now is to sell any players so it comes as a great relief when players such as Jose Enrique come out and say they have no intentions of leaving.
He said,
"I love the city, I love the club and I don't care about signing for another team. I don't read the papers because I don't understand English that well! Some players were joking with me about what it said. I want to go back to the Premier League, that is true, but I want to go back to the Premier League with Newcastle.
This is a big, big, big club in England and it is important that it gets back into the Premier League. I say all the time when people ask me, ‘I love this club'. It is normal that our players are linked with other clubs because we are playing well.
But I am happy here, I want to make up for the mistakes we made last season. I think when you are happy with the city and happy with the club, you would not want to leave."
Those comments come on the back of comments made by Fabricio Coloccini after the victory against Cardiff.
The Argentine said, "I am happy here and happy to help the club get back into the Premier League."
Meanwhile his fellow Argentinean Jonas Gutierrez said,
"Regardless of what happens in terms of other clubs, I'm not going anywhere. I really enjoy playing for Newcastle and my family are happy here. All I am thinking about is getting Newcastle back into the Premier League."
Those are all positive signs especially as those players come from abroad and it shows that the players are committed to getting Newcastle into the Premier League again.
The person who deserves the credit for all of this is none than Chris Hughton. It is fantastic to see how the players are all making the right noises in the media, but also how they are getting the results on the field. He has taken the team to the top of the Championship as we enter our first game in December under circumstances many others could have failed in.
This feeling was once again echoed by Enrique when he said,
"The manager has been very important. Chris has a big opportunity now and I think for me, he is the best manager that I have had in my three seasons at Newcastle. He understands football and the players are happy to play for him. It is the first time he has had the opportunity to do the job properly and he has proved he is a good manager. He is the right man for Newcastle at the moment."
This is the first time in a very long time that the team is playing for the manager and this togetherness can only be good for Newcastle United. If this can be continued on the pitch, as it has done so far this season, there is no reason to think that Newcastle United won't be in the Premier League come next season.

As tunyc says it's a heart warming read. It's good to know those three players want to stay. I'm looking forward to the next 26 games.

What scotch do you normally drink? I bought a battle of McAllen Battle Hill a month or so ago, that I really enjoyed. But it's $50 for only 11 years matured. Regardless, was as good as a lot of 15 year olds I've had in the past.

Thanks guys, I felt it was encouraging hearing the players say those things and I'm sure the biggest fear we have with the January window coming up is that we don't want to lose any players. I think although Ashley would want money if offered to him, he should resist selling any players, for it will give him a greater chance of us gaining promotion and him getting a better price for us once we in the premiership. The only problem is, Ashley might get so greedy, he'd sell some players, thinking he could replace them with cheaper options and we'd still get promotion. With Ashley we just don't know...
i have a long-standing natural aversion to badge-kissers. how many of the players who left in the summer gave similar quotes at some point during the season before, or even the summer itself? it's an expected PR exercise, anytime one of these players has a camera pushed in their face - launch of a boot sponsorship, national side get together, visit to hospital, whatever - someone asks them if they are happy, and if they want to stay. you know what? there is no answer a player can give other than yes and yes! you think these guys are sincere? thats up to you guys.
because so many go back on such statements, its hard to believe any of them, sincere or not.
as for ashley, he'll be looking to get back up as cheap as possible, so if he thought he could get a few more big contracts out the door he will almost certainly try. he will use this short term reasoning 'i sold beye who was on 3m a year, and loaned in simpson for a fraction of that, we still have a decent right back and can look for a long term solutiuon when we know what division we will be in next year'. i dont agree with this strategy 100pc, but this is what i'd imagine he would do if an offer for, say, colo came in over the next few weeks. colo out, sol(or similar) in, profit on sale and wage bill reduced. he'd then simply expect the manager to get on with it, cos hughton will never confront him on such issues.

On the original thread though, I do believe what Jose says. he has never tried to rock the boat and why should he with the wages he is on.
Not saying he wouldnt leave if we accepted an offer but at least he is making the right noises.
I do agree with LMK that Ashley will look at reducing the wage bill and bringing in cash to get rid of some of the players and this is no dig at Chris but he isn't going to rock the boat under Ashley if he sells more players.

Thanks Carys, will try to post more things over the next few weeks if I get the chance.
As for this topic, I think its just great how all three players are focused on getting promotion. They could easily have said I'm happy here, but we don't know what tomorrow holds and if a offer comes my way I'd have to consider it etc. but they didn't. Its like the whole group have one common goal, which certainly hasn't been the case in recent times.
