FA CUP Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Plymouth v Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United travel to Plymouth Argyle this weekend for their 3rd round FA Cup match and manager Chris Hughton will be looking for a good start to the Cup after a successful first half of the season in the Championship but is unlikely to prioritise it.
Midfielder Joey Barton remains his only absentee due to a long term foot injury, whilst Marlon Harewood (Aston Villa) and Zurab Zhizanishvili (Blackburn Rovers) have returned to their respective clubs after loan spells at Newcastle.
Hughton may well rest several of his key players, including goal keeper Steve Harper and Jose Enrique whilst keeper Tim Krul, defender Tamas Kadar and striker Nile Ranger could all be given a chance to impress.
Nicky Butt is also likely to start, having replaced the suspended Alan Smith during their last league game.
Plymouth host on the back of their best result of the season, a 4-1 thrashing of Reading on Monday, however, head coach Paul Mariner is without defender Reda Johnson who is away on International Duty for the African Nations Cup. Chris Baker returns to the side.
Plymouth will also be without Krisztian Timar who has joined Oldham on loan and defender Marcel Seip has joined Sheffield United on loan.
This game is one of 7 all Championship ties in the 3rd round of the FA Cup. However the gap between the two sides within the Championship couldn't be much bigger with 21 points between the two teams.

Not a priority, its not like we can expect to win it.
Normally I love the cup as its a shot at glory but this year is all about securing promotion - nothing else matters

I would like to win today though. When we are dumped out of the FA Cup let it be by a better team than near bottom of the table Plymouth.

0-0 Replay probably week on Wednesday.
Pitch by all accounts was very poor especially in the goal area. At least it was the same for both teams. We had chances we should have won this one.

Its not the best of results but at least its not a defeat and we should win the home tie. Glad to see Kadar and the others getting some game time but unfortunately no toon win as a birthday present for me.

Happy birthday shame abouth the result. This is one of the worst results we could have had, a draw means another game and if Smith is injured then how long he is going to be out for. Promotion is far more important than a cup

He still needs games, and without building any 2-0 leads, it's been too hard to get him in. He looks a lot like S. Taylor did 3 or 4 years ago (though he has't been sniped yet).
