Tough one to call but I think it will be 2-1 to us.

I have to go to work at 15.40 so will only be able to listen to first 40 mins, I'll rely on you posters to keep me up to date whenever I get a chance to get online.

Listening to Final score in the BBC and the commentator was saying how Hughton's team sheet indicates how he views this competition in comparison to Di Matteo.

Personally don't think he has put a weak team out at all. The bench is full of youngesters (and Harper & Ameobi) but with our absent players (Lovenkrands/Barton/Simpson) I dont think he could have fielded a much stronger side.

Got to go, off to work.

Let's hope the score is in our favour when I check in later.

this thread has gone quiet lol

judging by .com's review of the game much went wrong due to @#$%& refereeing. i'd love for us to go on a cup run but being that the race has tightened over the weeks for promotion it's a good thing we're out.

Just in from work, I was not expecting such a bad outcome to the match.

We should have had 2 penalties last match as well IMO.

I didn't hear any of the match or the goals. Disappointing result when you look at the team that we fielded but if we were going to lose a game then the cup is the one to do it in

I've added our goals to my blog. Two clinical finishes from Carroll. He didn't deserve to be on the losing side with those goals.

I am not sure if you had realised this, but if you had beaten West Brom (thus giving Swansea City - who you were due to play on 13th February, which is FA Cup 5th round weekend - a free weekend in a fortnight) last week and Crystal Palace either beaten Wolves last week or do so in this Tuesday's replay (thus giving my team Watford - who Palace are due to play on 13th February - a free weekend in fortnight) then I am sure Watford and Swansea City would have agreed to play the match that was postponed today on FA Cup 5th round weekend.

Unfortunately, you didn't beat West Brom, so if Palace win on Tuesday then Watford will be staring down the barrel of yet another free weekend as we had a match postponed four weeks ago as well as today, plus the match away to Derby County on 6th March (which is FA Cup quarter-final weekend) will also have to be moved if Derby win their 5th round match v Birmingham City (we cannot play Swansea that day as they will definitely be playing Nottingham Forest as Forest are out of the Cup). So, we could be facing a third and fourth free weekend, which contradicts the whole point of associating weekends with football.

I still cannot work out why a Premier League club such as yourselves are due to grace Vicarage Road on 27th February.

I know no-one outside Watford and Swansea City has any interest in what I said, but it goes to show how much of an influence the FA Cup can have on the League programme, even on teams who are no longer in the Cup.

Funny enough, both teams lost in the 3rd round stage to teams playing as I write as Swansea lost 2-1 to Leicester City while the team who I used to support, my dad still supports and we are watching right now beat Watford 5-0 (that team is of course Chelsea).

Actully, the last match Chelsea played before I resigned myself to the fact that my emotions for Watford were greater than mine for Chelsea was away to Newcastle in May 2006, and you won 1-0, not that I really cared as it came just before I came to the realisation that I no longer had any place in my heart for Chelsea. The previous day, Watford had beat Crystal Palace 3-0 at Selhurst Park in the Championship play-off semi-final 1st leg, then the following Tuesday the two teams draw 0-0 at Vicarage Road and a week-and-a-half later we were beating Leeds United 3-0 at Cardiff to become a Premiership side. I wrote a detailed essay explaining why I switched from Chelsea to Watford.

Unfortunately, both Newcastle and Watford look set to miss this season's Championship play-offs as you are too far ahead of 3rd place while we are too far behind 6th.

i hope you are right about us missing the play offs jonathon!
as for the cup/league preference, newcastle have 7 league fixtures in feb (we wont be the only ones either). if we were still in the cup, and didnt postpone league games for replays, the fourth round wouldnt get finished until march!
i cant see any other way to do it

It is a tremendous honour to be less popular on Tyneside than Mike Ashley, Andy Cole and, well that's all I can name with regards to people who are unpopular in the North-East as I have neither visited the area nor yet seen Newcastle United play.

Newcastle do not currently meet the two following criteria of being a Championship club:

1). Club looks like struggling in the Premier League were they to get promoted
2). Club has played at Vicarage Road in front of Jonathan Winsky's very eyes

I have a lot of feet-licking respect for Newcastle as they have spent most of the season top of the division, although the reality is in fact that had Nottingham Forest not been so poor this season against Watford - Forest lost 4-2 at the City Ground and drew 0-0 at Vicarage Road - and instead done the double then they would actully be top.

I expect you will complete a double v Watford (to supplement your 2-0 victory at St. James' Park in December) later this month, although I don't think our home record is too bad (due to two postponements in January, we have not played a home match since Boxing Day, although finally we have a home match tomorrow v Sheffield United).

andy cole is popular up here jonathon. one of the best i saw in our colours. maybe when he left it hurt a bit, but time heals such wounds. a great striker.
