Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Leicester City v Newcastle Utd
By Tyne-Talk
January 29 2010
Newcastle United will be sporting fresh legs when they travel to Leicester City for tomorrow evening's match with 5 new signings under their belts. Newcastle have won just two of their last six games, securing three draws with just one defeat, whilst Leicester host on the back of three defeats from six games, one draw and two wins.
Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson will be hoping that the club receives International clearance for former Newcastle United player Nolberto Solano, after the Peruvian began training with the club last week. Pearson is also likely to give 40 year old Chris Powell some pitch time after he made his first start for the club in midweek.
City will be without Bruno Berner who has returned to training from a calf injury but is unlikely to be fit to play.
For Newcastle, Chris Hughton has several first team injuries. Steven Taylor could be absent for up to two months with a knee injury, whilst Jose Enrique pulled up with a hamstring injury in midweek and could be out for several weeks.
Shola Amoebi (shoulder) and Danny Simpson (ankle) are both unavailable, whilst Jonas Gutierrez is expected to return from an ankle complaint.
Hughton will be expected to name Fitz Hall and Patrick Van Aanholt in his squad as well as naming Mike Williamson and Wayne Routledge.

i do want to see guthrie in the middle, but lets not change to much at once, given the new back four and routledge.
subs include guthrie ranger and aanholt all getting onto the pitch, barring injuries

Either way I have a good feeling about tomorrow. Williamson should give us the aerial edge should Howard play as he can out himself about.
The same team for me other than that. Think Kadar should start as he has canny and could do with the games. Will be good for his confidence if he keeps his place.
lmk's line up looks good. Guthrie coming off the bench with fresh legs would be a good option imo.
I'm really looking forward to watching this game and seeing how well the new guys fit in.
Good luck new'uns.

Great news!
It's up to us to make the most of that result.
C'mon lads.

Based on last seasons performance, we deserved relegation, but now we have the chance to prove to them we deserve Premier League football - let's storm this league!
LCFC: Chris Weale, Michael Morrison, Wayne Brown, Matt Oakley (c), Andy King, Matty Fryatt, Bruno Berner, Martyn Waghorn, Richie Wellens, Paul Gallagher, Jack Hobbs
Subs: Robbie Nielson, Ryan McGivern, Nobby Solano, Steve Howard, Lloyd Dyer, Conrad Logan, Danny N'Guessan
NUFC: Steve Harper, Ryan Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Mike Williamson, Patrick van Aanholt, Wayne Routledge, Nicky Butt (c), Alan Smith, Danny Guthrie, Kevin Nolan, Andy Carroll
Subs: Tim Krul, Tamas Kadar, Jonas Gutierrez, Peter Lovenkrands, Nile Ranger, Fitz Hall, Fabrice Pancrate
Must admit I'm disappointed with the team. I feel we'll lack creativity with Butt and Smith in the centre. Leicester are currently said to be out of form and this was the ideal opportunity to start with two proper wingers in Jonas and Routledge. Time will tell whether its the right or wrong team for today.

I'm optimistic; though I'd still rather we brought through young Tamas...I reckon he'll be an important player in years to come.

5 man middle gone, with Ranger on. Where's Jonas?

Hell, he could put Pancrate on for Butt...

This is the first time I've not been pleased to see him.

not great, but not as bad as all that, surely?
Reminds me of The Weakest Link...you struggle to put a good combination together and some fcker always manages to screw it up.
We need to improve the final part of our attacking puzzle....we looked completely harmless today.
Remind me which team had 10 men again???

as already said, we have a lot of games coming up close together, we may well see a few different line-ups game by game while injuries settle and new players gel
Quote:Try telling that to the fans behind the goal. How many times did we just blast it miles over the bar? No spark at all, why wasn't Jonas put on, I wonder...Joe
we looked completely harmless today.

that would be bad news
Smith and Butt we both off the pace and even though they were down to ten men it felt we were with having Nicky on, it amazed me that Smith went off, not because he deserved to stay on but how Butt stayed on the pitch. Butt's legs are gone and we need to get rid. I am sick of having Carroll on the pitch, the team lack pace and we have a forward in Lovernkrands who can offer us that. Carroll may win balls but what else does he do. Everytime he plays we play the same way, long ball and hope for the best, we should be better than this in this division. Lovernkrands atleast looks like he will run at people.
Guthrie was dissapointing but I liked Van Aanholt and thought he would have done better with a left winger like Jonas as he could have done some inter link play. At times out of position but pleased what I saw and if we can afford him worth going after the lad for a decent back up for Enrique.
R.Taylor crossing was awful but at times saved us defensively, but lacks the pace. Colo wasn't amazing but it could have been worse. Ranger is a good prospect and either needs a good run out to get expereince in the team as he is still learning or needs to be loaned out to get the experience. I was optimistic before the game and even though we are still top I am sick of playing cr@p, I said it yesterday it is time to change the personal in the team and progress the club.
I thought the new lads looked ok, Williamson started off well but then went a bit gash but enough there to do a job, Van Aanholt looked decent. Routledge looked one of the players that was going to create things
Newcastle are easy to play against and unless we change the centre of midfield we will always will be, play a counter attack 4-5-1 or put pressure on us and play rough and we don't know what to do.
Quote:He was on the bench but wasn't brough on. Could be an injury, maybe a row with the gaffer, maybe he just didn't put him on, but I really think Jonas should've played some part in today's game.lostmekeys
u think he's away like?
that would be bad news

Think we mentioned when we were right out in front that we would be happy to win at home and draw away. Think we have been a bit spoilt as no one would have thought we would doing so well at the start of the season.
I am frustrated as the next person and couldnt believe it when I saw Butt and Smith in the middle. Why not Loven on left and Guthrie in the middle. That formation had draw all over it after not being convincing against Palace and the last few teams. We are not only missing a creative force from the CM but someone with genuine pace and the ability to drive us forward. Saying that those type of players dont grow on trees.
The new lads were good, Van got up well and like has been mentioned he could have done with Jonas in front. Williamson was impressive and dealt with every ball that was pumped in. Rout was a good outlet and really could/should have had two of their players sent off.
Did anyone see the interview with Pearson. I knew he had a bit of arogance about him but what a t.wat.
New guys did good tbh our best two players were probably aarnholt and routlede they seemed pacey and created a bit.
Please no more playing Butt offer him a coaching roll r make him tea ladie or something his legs are gone.
Did anyone else thnk Nolan, Guthrie, in fact half the team looked knackered tonight ?
Poor poor preformance but look on the bright sidewe are still top with a little gap.
As for Jonas-if CH wasn't willing to use him, he should not have been named in the squad.
