By Tyne-Talk March 5 2010
Newcastle United host Barnsley tomorrow afternoon on the back of four wins, one loss and one draw in their last six games whilst Barnsley travel on the back of three wins and three defeats in their last six games. Newcastle will be pushing to strengthen their lead at the top of the Championship, whereas Barnsley will be looking move into the top ten in their chase for a playoff position.
Jose Enrique (hamstring), Peter Lovenkrands (hamstring) and Nicky Butt (thigh) all return to the squad having recovered from injury; however Wayne Routledge (calf), Steven Taylor (knee) and Shola Ameobi (hamstring) are all out injured. Joey Barton has returned to training, but is not fit enough to make the squad.
Barnsley manager Mark Robbins is likely to field an unchanged side from their last game and has no new injuries to contend with. Ryan Shotton will be hoping he maintains his place in the starting eleven ahead of Luke Potter who was dropped to the bench, whilst Iain Hume is looking for a start after scoring last week's winner.
Newcastle go into the game the only team in the Championship yet to taste defeat at home, whilst 7 of Barnsley's 13 wins have come against teams in the top ten of the table. The two sides have met 29 times previously with 10 wins each and just 9 draws.
Fact: Newcastle have won more (20) and lost less (4) matches than any other Championship side.
Fact: Barnsley have gone 12 matches without a draw.

Got a good feeling but suppose most people have the way the results are coming for us.
But, like the away game, I think Barnsley will try and get stuck right into us. We have to compete but not come down to that level and let our quality do the business.
3 - 0 I agree with Lovenkrands grabbing a goal, carroll will get one and I can imagine Smith scoring one from the edge of the 18 yard box hopefully too.
Carroll with a left foot cross???!!! Teach Jonas! And Lovenkrands (1) has to be seen as our main striker and (2) has to get picked up by his national team. Canny player and he'll continue to score in the prem so long as he gets service. (*for the record, that's the first time I've ever used the word "canny.")

Just got home and missed the match but what I fantastic result! Good to see Lovenkrands, Guthrie and Gutierrez on the scoresheet. They rank amongst my favourite toon players so that was a bonus. Keep up the good work lads.
jusy watched bendtner miss a handful of chances for arsenal today. wor peter would have scored more than once if he had been playing for them instead of bendtner. i think lovenkrands is great, and if the denmark manager has noticed his form, he should be taking him to the world cup in place of arsenals forward
the longer wor lads scoring run goes on, the better i feel about his premier league chances

Peter played well when he got the chance last season. Three in the back of the net and a few assists off crosses as I recall. All of that came off the wing too, not as a striker. He's got a great combination of pace and height that makes him a real threat. He could use a bit better finishing with his right foot, but that's only if you're finding fault just to find it. Definitely someone that I think can have a major impact for us next year. And if he's struggling to find the net, he could always play Left Wing and have Jonas on the right.
The last three games that Guthrie has started in the middle of the pitch, we have scored a total of 15 goals and allowed two consolations to substitutes.

Agree with the last two boys. His header today was a belta but still havnt watched it on tv yet (got it on sky +). Would like to see a few of the offside decisions against as well today as he could have had more.
He did do well in the premier and in a poor team and glad he is getting a run and scoring goals. I wasnt convinced about him if we went back up but Im being converted like you both said. If you look at some of the premier forwards and their scoring records Im sure he could match them.
Im pleased for him and hope he makes the world cup.
I've added the goals and must admit the Jonas goal should be contender for goal of the season. Furthermore speaking about Lovenkrands, I think he and Bendtner can actually be a good partnership for Denmark up front. I too hope he makes the squad for he has been fantastic since joining us.
