Newcastle United have been promoted to the Premier League after Nottingham Forest managed only a 0-0 draw at home against Cardiff. Newcastle who have just kicked off in tonight's game against Sheffield United, were 15 points ahead of Forest who needed 3 points today to be in with a chance of catching them. They will now have to fight for second spot or be satisfied with a battle in the playoffs.
News will have reached the fans visiting St James' Park this evening and there is expected to be a party atmosphere within the ground as the fans celebrate victory weeks before the end of the season.
Manager Chris Hughton told the official site, nufc.co.uk;
"This is a wonderful achievement and we are absolutely delighted.
That we have secured promotion with six games to spare is testament to this set of players and how good a season they have had.
This is what we have been building towards all season and I'm delighted for everyone associated with the club.
But we have got a game tonight and it's one we very much want to win.
Our focus now is on that because we want to celebrate promotion with victory in front of our magnificent fans."
