Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Reading v Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United travel to the Madejski Stadium tonight in the only Championship match of the evening. Newcastle pitch up on the back of a 4-1 win over Blackpool at the weekend, their fifth consecutive win and a draw from their last six games. Reading host the match on the back three draws, including a 0-0 result at Cardiff, two wins and one defeat in their last six.
Reading will be seeking 3 points in order to keep their chances of a playoff place alive, whilst Newcastle are looking for a further 3 points in order to ensure top spot come the end of the season.
Reading will be without defender Matt Mills, who serves the second game of his four match ban, whilst Brian Howard (neck) and Jem Karacan (dead leg) are both fit to play. Kalifa Cisse (thigh) had hoped for a return tonight but despite resuming training he is most likely to feature in a reserve match before being thrown back into the first team.
Manager Brian McDermott will be without Iva Ingimarsson (hamstring), Marek Matejovsky (stomach), Noel Hunt (knee) and Chris Armstrong (knee) who are all absent through injury.
Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton is expected to recall Jose Enrique who missed the Blackpool game due to a virus, but Tamas Kadar is out after picking up a hamstring injury and Steven Taylor (jaw) remains sidelined.
Fact: Reading have won both of their home games against Newcastle.
Fact: Newcastle are unbeaten in 13 league games and won the corresponding fixture in September 3-0 with an Ameobi hatrick.

2-0 at Half Time sure is excellent. Nolan really is ending the season superbly. I'm happy to see us playing the 4-5-1 system away from home too. We need to use this as preparation for next season.

This has been a great season, and has been really good to be a supporter as I feel the feel good factor is coming back into the club.
The worrying thing for me is that we are taking the step up in class when we hit the premiership and hopefully we won't go back into the club that we were over the last few years in the premiership, as the majority of those players were a disgrace

Whether or not the group of lads we have now are talented enough for the premier league is up for debate. Whether or not they are willing to fight for the right to play in it shouldn't be.
We should worry about how much fuel some of the lads will have left in the tank. Jonas has had a long year, and still has the Cup to play. Also, next season's schedule could have a huge impact on the confidence of the lads. Open up in London and we'll be in trouble. Draw ManU, Liverpool, and Villa too close to each other and confidence could be shattered.

I have said on here a few times that I think we will suprise a few people next season and quite a few players have something to prove next season.
I am hoping that everybody will be upto the quality of the premiership and have enough fight in them, as the last couple of seasons at the top was awful, the club had no spirit, no fight and no quality.
Under Chris is seems different and the players seem to be playing for thier shirt

i'm quite capable of feeling great about what is happening right now, and also holding the knowledge that the future may hold some pain. think last orders after a great night out!
i was of course referring to the other thread, where i tried to stop the overflowing enthusiasm for starting next season with only players of similar or lesser quality to those we already have, by pointing out the number of very close games we have ended up winning. we'll face much stronger teams next season, teams who have learned the knack of turning small advantages into points. you knew that tho,didnt you?

Consider: last season, Hull beat us twice and drew us twice. Since then, we've shed Shay Given, Damien Duff, Habib Beye, Sebastian Bassong, Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins. Yet I'm confident we won't go 0-2-2 against Hull next season (if they're in the PL, that is).
It's a funny game. I don't even think we'll finish in the top half, but I think we have a much more hardworking and balanced squad than last year that-with a few additions-will see us to more consistent good results against lower-table opposition.
