Transfer Day Thoughts

GALLOWGATE LUKE: "It would appear that Liverpool are about to seal the signing of our young striker Andy Carroll.  As of me writing this (10pm 31-1-2011) there is still no confirmation of the deal or the transfer fee.

If the rumours about it being in the vicinity of £30 Million are true then I say sell him.
"
That kind of money is to good to turn down and off the top of my head will smash the record fee NUFC have ever recieved for a player (most we got was about £13M for Milner and Woodgate was about the same).

All the best Andy - no hard feelings at my end."

BECKSA09 -

'Heartbroken, but 35m is a lot of money. Bigger issue, can we stay up now?'

DAVENUFC -

"Let down I suppose, it was almost like he was one of us and it now seems a return to the days when we bred good players for others to take, Waddle, Beardsley, Gazza for instance.

I realise it shouldn't matter where you come from but there is something secial about a geordie number nine.

Confusion as well, I can't quite work out how to blame Ashley yet. Give me time though I will."

My thoughts: there goes the worst deadline day I've seen in a while. And they haven't been good lately.

Going home from a completely fruitless day of work to a nice bottle of aged bourbon. No, I won't sell it to you-don't even make an offer!

we had a short while when we became a buying club. I suppose our hopes were raised just to be dashed

Ashley was always going to cash in on Carroll. Ashley waited till the last possible minute to sell Carroll so that he could get away with not investing a single penny of the fee on new players. Carroll is not injured, Ashley was just keeping him out of the team to protect his asset to guarantee him millions at the end of the window. I guarantee Carroll will be in the starting eleven for Liverpool's next match. It's just like Beardsley all over again when he missed a run of games with a suposed injury before joining Liverpool then immediately ran rings round the Brazillian national team three days later.

Newcastle United have not got £35 million for Carroll, Ashley has got £35 million for Carroll. In real terms Newcastle Utd have got NOTHING for Andy Carroll because that's how much of the fee will be re-invested on new players.

Another thing, this supposed "transfer request" is a total crock. Ashley has persuaded Carroll to go to Liverpool with something on the lines of "£100,000 a week, it's all yours and all you have to do is not deny it when we announce you asked for a transfer".

This is one of my darkest ever days in 40 years of supporting Newcastle United. RIP NUFC destroyed by a fat parasite cockney b*****d.

Absolute truth probably, but in football its more confidential than being an MP, we can only draw up our ideas on the truth, but I bet your not far off......

Final thought:

AP is either Ashley's yes man or more generally an incompetent chump. Either way, I can now save a few minutes of my life not paying attention to a goddamn thing he says.

Bank balance great, but squad quality then it is a total let down, Jan window always goes crazy with last minute deals, but then the toon had enough time to try and bring in somebody

From a practical standpoint, we just sold a striker with less than 3/4 of a Top-flight season under his belt for a fee equal to what Barcelona paid for David Villa.

This entire transfer window was blown wide open when Villa shelled out 18 million for Bent. Villa horribly overpaid there, and has led to non-stop overpaying for strikers from numerous teams. I can't blame Ashley for passing up 35 million, as Carroll will never be worth that again. I do blame him for how he approached this window and how he's clearly looking short term with the club, and it's going to come back to haunt him.
