ROBSON: Robert Deserves An International Recall

November 9 2003
Newcastle United boss Sir Bobby Robson believes that midfielder Laurent Robert deserves a recall to the French national team, following his recent performances.
ROBSON CALLS FOR ROBERT CALL-UP
ROBSON SAID:
"Laurent can force his way back into the French squad if he continues to play like this, there is no reason why he can't do that.
"If Ryan Giggs, David Beckham or Michael Owen had scored that goal (against Basel), people would be describing it as a master goal. He had so much to do when he got the ball.
"There are not many players around who can score goals like that. There's certainly no winger in the Premiership who is capable of scoring as many important goals as Laurent.
"We have spent a lot of time with him, more than we have with any other player. Yet it wasn't time wasted because we have a gem, a very special player indeed."
