"JENAS IS THE FUTURE"

Newcastle United skipper Alan Shearer has tipped youngster Jermaine Jenas to go all the way after committing his future to the club.

The 20-year-old England ace signed a 5-year-deal on friday which will keep him at St James' Park until 2008, and captain Shearer is expecting big things from the former Notts. player.

SHEARER SAID: "I'm pleased for him. He's a big talent and JJ can be whatever he wants to be, he has that much talent, he really has.

"The future can be whatever he chooses it to be, he really has got that big a chance. There's still a lot more to come from him.

"But what you've seen is very good and obviously the club have rewarded him a new five-year deal, and the future looks very, very good for him."

Shearer also knows all about the pressure of growing up in the game with the label of potential greatness. However, the game that JJ is coming into, has changed greatly since the one on which Shearer made his mark.

HE ADDED: "It's changed massively. Everything about it has changed, the stadiums, the crowds, the finance, the number of games, attitudes, everything has changed so much. It's completely changed, without a doubt.

"But he's playing in his own time now and he's a very, very talented player. For someone so young - what is he, 20 - he's got the world at his feet."
