Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson says there is no chance of him selling Nolberto Solano, despite the player being unsettled at the club.

The Peruvian ace has found his first-team opportunities limited this season after being a first team regular during last season’s successful campaign, new signing Lee Bowyer has been keeping him on the sidelines this year.

Subsequently, rumours have been doing the rounds of him moving on, with the player himself warning a longer stay on the bench could lead to a St James Park exit.

However, Robson says there's no chance of him going, adding the 28-year-old still has a major part to play as they again aim for a Champions League spot.

"I am not interested in selling Nobby even though we have a lot of competition in his position," the 70-year-old said. "He is a class player and I want him to fight for his place like Lee Bowyer and everyone else. You need that competition."

Robson did, however, suggest that he would add to the squad during the January transfer window.
"I would like to get two players in next month and I know the two positions I want to strengthen," he added. "The right of midfield is not one of them."
