England assistant boss Tord Grip has told newspapers that Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer remains in Sven Goran Eriksson's plans for next year's European championships.
SHEARER IN SVENS PLANS
Shearer retired from international football after the Euro 2000 tournament, but Grip told the Guardian: "He's the best English goalscorer, that's for sure. Michael Owen is struggling a little bit with injuries, so Shearer is a good option.
"Of course, since he decided not to play for England he has had a little bit more time to recover from all the matches you have here. You can see the result. It's a pity for us, I must say.
"If I hear that and Sven doesn't, then I will have a word with Sven. I think so, I know what Sweden are doing at the moment to try and persuade Henrik Larsson, because they are struggling for strikers as well.
"Larsson is scoring in almost every game but he's playing for the team as well and that is the same with Alan Shearer. He's working, he is the captain of course as well. He's doing very well."
