My life has been pretty stressful lately but sitting amongst a load of Southampton supporters when watching Newcastle play really topped it off. In what Sir Bobby Robson called “a glorious game” and I would have to agree, I found it increasingly difficult to keep my feet from tapping out the beats of the Toon army’s chants.

And I cringed at the words leaving the saints supporters mouths – how could they say those things about our team!!!

It was then I remembered Keep Smiling, Keep Clapping Keep looking like a saints fan!

However dressed all in black this was slightly difficult to achieve 100%

Goal – my dad kicked me from the left, the crowd rose from the right and it silenced the already not very loud saints fans. The only time my mask slipped was when we had those chances in the 1st half and then I couldn’t help show happiness when they wasted their chances in the 2nd half. I felt our players dominated the majority of the game and our fans dominated the atmosphere.

Before I arrived I knew it would be impossible to join any version of “Oh when the saints” and considered a way out – luckily Southampton fans were just as they were on my previous trip to St Mary’s – quite quiet and several people around me sat in silence – weird!

Now Bowyer said pre match that he looked forward to scoring the winning goal – well – he scored!

I was very confused by the big screen announcing Marion Pahars scoring our third goal when I thought it was Ambrose – however this was clarified when I returned home.

The game was good with a good tempo and definitely determination, which had previously been lacking.

No boos from the fans (except saints booing Shearer and Dyer) and great applause when Robert made an appearance. Something which was really obvious – the Toon army showed appreciation to all the players – all 22 players, whereas the saints fans showed no respect for the Newcastle players whatsoever.

Glad to be a NUFC supporter – wouldn’t have it any other way!

Memo to season ticket holders: Anyone with a spare ticket for home games next season please let me know!
