Newcastle Look To Sign Southampton's Beattie

BEATTIE IS A TARGET

James Beattie is an £8 million target for Newcastle United, it has been revealed.

After dropping their interest for Celtic's Henrik Larsson Newcastle are expected to switch all attention to the Saints striker.

Sources close to the Magpies have confirmed to the Daily Echo that Beattie is an alternative target for Sir Bobby following a few impressive years at St Mary's.

Saints chairman Rupert Lowe however, is determined to keep hold of Beattue and said: "We have had absolutely no interest from anywhere for James.

"If and when there is then we will deal with it but our players are not for sale. We are not a selling club."
