Sir Bobby Robson has today asked Newcastle United's fans to put their faith in him following Nolberto Solano's controversial departure to Aston Villa yesterday. Nobby was one of the club's most popular players and Robson insist's he was not forced out.

TRUST ME, PLEADS ROBSON

Nobby's substitution, for the sixth successive game, at Liverpool angered the travelling fans at Anfield, who chanted his name after he had left the pitch - and gave him a standing ovation.

Robson believes that he has the players to see them through to the end of the season. Darren Ambrose and Lee Bowyer can easily fill Nobby's boots - according to the Magpies' boss.

"The supporters have got to trust us," said Robson. "We have done what we think right. I think in the long term they will see that.

"It made sense for Newcastle United financially and otherwise. You can say to a degree we reinvested that money when we brought in Lee Bowyer and Darren Ambrose. They're players for that position for the long-term future."

Robson is ready to hand starlet Ambrose a rare start on the right flank on Saturday, while Craig Bellamy may also return, although he is likely to play a bench role.

Robson said: "Darren Ambrose is a young prospect with a big future. Nolberto Solano knows all that, he's aware of that. He saw Darren Ambrose every day in training.

"Darren Ambrose has got a chance and Lee Bowyer's back in a week's time. He plays for the reserves on Monday and will be fit to start playing again.

"They've both done very well. They both score goals, they both get the ball across the face of goal.

"Craig Bellamy's back and he's fine. He played for the reserves and came through wonderfully well. He was fantastic. The next morning he was not as I thought he should be, I thought he'd feel like he'd been hit by a bus and all stiffened up.

"But he was normal, he's worked really hard in rehabilitation. He's in the squad. We will play him again on Monday in the reserves, that is for sure.

"My thoughts are to bench him for Saturday. He could give us a good 20 minutes. I thought he worked well Monday night. His knee felt fine after that match."
