CARR UPDATE

The Guardian says that Newcastle were quoted £4.5 million for Stephen Carr during negotiations with Spurs over the weekend but the Magpies' are convinced that they can land the fullback for less than half that figure in the summer - when he enters the final year of his current deal.

Robson said, "We're going with what we've got and I think that will be good enough.

"What we want we can't get at the moment, so we're keeping our powder dry and building up a little kitty for the start of next season."

On Bridges, Robson said, "Michael has been fit for two months and he looks very good.

"He didn't sign a new contract at Leeds - I think he was despairing of the place - so he wasn't picked. He's looked great in training and he's so pleased to be back home. Michael is an artist and he's only 25."

Carr however, has said that he wants a move to Arsenal, despite Newcastle's interest.

Spurs manager David Pleat said: "He is playing fine for us and he's responding to the challenge of captaincy and he has 18 months to go.

"I don't see that as a major issue at the moment. It would only be a major issue if someone came in and offered us £8m or something like that."
