Apparently, Newcastle United's alleged interest in Spurs defender Stephen Carr was a smokescreen for fans of the club. It is understood that Geordie fans were unhappy with the sale of Nobby Solano to Aston Villa and wanted to know who the club were planning on buying during the transfer window.

CARR MOVE NEVER ON?

Chairman Freddie Shepherd REPORTEDLY told the local press that Carr was the man they were lining-up.
Manager Sir Bobby Robson however, made it clear that the club WERE NOT bidding for the right-back - as Darren Ambrose was going to be given a chance to play.
However, Ambrose is a midfielder, so how that would affect a possible move for Carr I do not know... unless Carr was going to play in midfield?
