Reports claimed that Newcastle had started out the better team but by half time the two teams were fairly even on performance.

Second half and Craig Bellamy equalized in the 63rd minute with great cheers from the crowd, giving the team an enormous boost to continue.

Commentators for several channels reported that the game right through the second half always looked like having another goal to finish the game off and said that it was unlikely it would have stayed a draw!

With Darren Ambrose being brought down in the penalty area Alan Shearer sunk his 83rd minute penalty into the back of the net past the Boro keeper.

However the game wasn’t all goals there were missed chances a plenty with Bellamy, Robert and Shearer firing shots over the bar.
