The English Football Association (The FA) have played down recent reports that Sven Goran Eriksson has been in talks with Newcastle United skipper Alan Shearer about the possibility of him making a return to the national side.

Alan Shearer said just yesterday that he had turned down the offer from Eriksson's offer to come out of international retirement for Euro 2004, and FA spokesman Adrian Bevington said:
"Sven has always made clear that he fully respects Alan Shearer's decision to retire from international football.
"He has made this clear in interviews throughout his time in England.
"Additionally, he has stated, as has Tord Grip, that had Alan ever reconsidered his decision, clearly they would have looked towards him figuring in any England squads.
"However, Sven would like to reaffirm his wish to respect Alan's decision and leave the matter there."
