ROBSONS VIEW ON AMBROSE

Ambrose played a part of the North East derby this weekend as Jermaine Jenas was rested for the first time this season and accepts the fact that Jenas may well return on Thursday - leaving him [Ambrose] on the bench.

SIR BOBBY ROBSON: "He's a fine player who needs a chance. He's got great feet, he's got an explosive shot - you haven't seen it yet, but when he gets close to goal, he's going to score for us, there's no doubt about that.

"It was because of him and with Lee Bowyer coming back, that was the reason we decided to let Nobby (Solano) go.

"Nobby is a fine player - I'm not arguing about Nobby Solano, he's a fine player, they have bought a fine player - but we have other players in the club who need to play.

"I hope the public will warm to Darren because he's a fine player. We see him every day - we know what we're talking about."
