Welsh striker Craig Bellamy has revealed how criticism of his injury problems helped motivate him during his recovery.

The Magpies' striker has scored in both of his starts for Sir Bobby's side since returning from a five-month injury lay-off.

He said: "People were saying I would not get in the team if I was fit anyway and that Newcastle were going to buy this number nine and that number nine.

"It made me even more determined to come back fit and strong and make a big difference to the team."

Bellamy underwent a fifth knee operation in October and added: "I was not playing well before I had the operation - I knew I needed the op, but I wanted to keep on playing.

"I got criticism and I wanted to come back and look those people in the eye. I'm still not 100% - but I'm not too far away."

Craig is expected to play a part in Thursday night's Uefa Cup third round first leg tie against Valerenga in Olso.
