Shearer Ready To Unleash Frustraition Onto Pompey

SHEARER TO RETURN TO ACTION

The St James' Park striker was left angry on Thursday night when he was rested along with midfielders Kieron Dyer and Laurent Robert for the 1-1 draw with Valerenga in Oslo.

Both Dyer and Robert came off the bench, but Shearer did not.

Manager Sir Bobby Robson has stood by his descision to drop the 33-year-old striker and hopes that he unleashes all of his frustrations on Pomey on Sunday.

"I always had in mind two teams - that's why Dyer was out and obviously Shearer and Laurent," he said.

"Portsmouth is a big match for us and the match in Norway, the result was never going to be the answer on the night.

"That game is over two legs; Portsmouth isn't. I always had that in mind and I am satisfied with what I did.

"We kept Alan out and he is fresh, and I was more disappointed really in other performances from certain players rather than talking about Alan Shearer."
