Shearer Tells Magpies' Board: "Splash Some Cash"

SHEARER: WE MUST SPEND

Shearer said, "An input of money is so important. I think you need to spend. The problem is that if a world-class player becomes available, inevitably one of the top three clubs is going to want him.

"And that's the difficult position Liverpool and ourselves find ourselves in now, because Man United, Arsenal and Chelsea are in a league of their own now.

"And I think come the end of the season it will be Liverpool and ourselves who are challenging for fourth position and the rest can fight for the other places.

"We have to get into the Champions League because that generates cash, and that's what's needed to try to challenge, to buy some new players."
