Newcastle (sixth) will take on the Addicks (fourth) at St James' Park on Saturday and Robson is doing nothing but remind his players that a Champions League spot is at stake.

"Make no mistake about it this is a massive, massive match for us against Charlton Athletic," he said.

"We know what is at stake and so too do the players.

"The chairman is right when he says there is far too much negativity around the place and we have got to stay positive.

"Losing at Spurs on Sunday and the fact that we need to finish in the top five to ensure European football at St James Park next season have made the Charlton game even more important if that's possible."

Sir Bobby has also left a plea to the fans of NUFC to do what they did last week at home to Real Mallorca... lift the players!

He added: "We are hoping that our supporters will get behind us like they did in the UEFA Cup against Real Mallorca.

"We had two teams out against Mallorca, one on the field and one off it and everyone is aware what happened.

"As soon as the players got back into the dressing room last Thursday night they weren't talking about the four goals they had scored in the second half, but the magnificent support they had received from our crowd and we need more of that against Charlton."

Craig Bellamy is unlikely to play a part in the game due to a damaged hamstring which he suffered against Tottenham.
