Given: We Must Spend

"WE MUST SPEND" - SHAY

We should be aiming for both UEFA Cup sucess and a place in next seasons Champions League.

Given explained: "We'd be delighted if we finish fourth and at this stage it would be a relief. If not we could win the Uefa Cup. But we really need to do both.

"When you look at Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea - and the amount of money they've spent - you'd have to say fourth place and a cup would be good for Newcastle. The bottom line is putting a trophy in the cabinet.

"If we're going to push for the Premiership title then we have to spend money this summer. The top three have done that and look at where they are.

"If you don't then you get left behind. Maybe that's why we're so far away from the top three. We do need to sign players in the summer to keep up."
